What Key Words are Important When Explaining Make It. MSP.?

Words matter in Make It. MSP.

Make It. MSP. is an initiative

The choice to call Make It. MSP. an initiative is highly intentional. It is not an organization, as it is one important effort among many of the GREATER MSP Partnership. It is not a program, as it does not deliver a predictable recurring service. It is not a single project, as its outcomes include the execution of scores of projects across different focus areas.

Make It. MSP. is led by a coalition of partners

The Make It. MSP. initiative does not run on the contributions of GREATER MSP staff members. It functions because more than 200 partners work together in teams to make decisions and take action together. Staff of the GREATER MSP Partnership enable those teams to function, from setting priorities, to executing, to evaluating results.

Make It. MSP. work happens in teams

All work of the GREATER MSP Partnership includes different organizations and individuals working together across boundaries to accomplish things together that they can't do alone. However, specific tasks are rarely completed by massive coalitions. The work of executing projects and delivering results happens in teams, such as the initiative's BE MSP team or MSP Hello team.

Make It. MSP. projects deliver results

Each and every project of the initiative may look different. The BE MSP team produced a digital toolkit, as we shared previously. The MSP Campus team produced an event that welcomes more than 1,000 interns each summer. The MSP Tech team produces digital campaigns to market the region to tech workers across the U.S. Each is a unique project that is measured and evaluated.

Make It. MSP. serves people

Not “talent”, not “professionals”, just “people”. When newcomers move here for economic opportunity, they bring their whole selves—as employees, community members, neighbors, spouses, parents, cyclists, theatre junkies, you name it. Recognizing their needs within and outside of their careers, and that of their families, is central to the work of Make It. MSP.

Other words are worth noting, but we share these examples intentionally because new and prospective partners rightly assume many different things about Make It. MSP. before learning from experience that it is unlike other efforts they are familiar with.
