How is MSP Performing at Attracting and Retaining People?
We’re moving in the right direction but our work has just begun.
The Greater MSP region is not yet a Top 10 U.S. metro at attracting and retaining people, but we have shown improved performance in recent years. Today, our region's performance is:
- Above average among large U.S. metros
- Leading nearly all Midwest peer regions, but trailing many peers in the West and South
- Differing across race/ethnicity and by domestic versus international migration
The question of “How are we doing?” depends on which population we are examining.
The region’s performance at attracting and retaining people can differ by age, occupation, place of origin, and much more. Plus, that performance changes year over year. Rankings provide a snapshot in time, but trends reveal major opportunities and threats. The question is ongoing and requires examination from multiple perspectives. Make It. MSP. regularly publishes reports to continue tracking performance.
