Lesson 1

  • Leveraging a network-based structure, Make It. MSP. is the region’s effort to work collaboratively as a region to better attract and retain people.
  • The purpose of the Make It. MSP. initiative is to make the MSP region one of the nation’s Top 10 performers at attracting and retaining people.
  • The strategic priorities of Make It. MSP. are to welcome and onboard newcomers (MSP Hello), retain people of color (BE MSP), attract technology workers (MSP Tech), and convert interns to full-time roles (MSP Campus).
  • The question of “How we are doing?” depends on how we define our customers. Rankings provide a snapshot in time, but trends reveal major opportunities and threats.

Lesson 2

  • Make It. MSP.’s work is focused in areas that represent significant opportunity for improvement and where a diverse group of partners are willing to invest time and attention.
  • Make It. MSP.’s work is guided by direct insight from newcomers themselves.
  • Make It. MSP. and its partners set goals and priorities, execute projects, and evaluate results together.

Lesson 3

When communicating the mission and work of Make It. MSP. to varying audiences:

  1. Consider how the initiative benefits them personally.
  2. Use consistent language when explaining Make It. MSP. (e.g. Make It. MSP. is an initiative to attract and retain people across the region).

Lesson 4

  • Getting involved with local community and professional organizations can help further Make It. MSP.’s mission by supporting the teams and individuals connected to MSP’s diverse audiences.
  • In collaboration with network partners, Make It. MSP. has developed a library of resources that can help you promote the region and connect newcomers to valuable assets and communities.
  • Makeitmsp.org provides a central hub to sign-up for newsletters, explore resources, and learn more about the initiatives four key projects.
  • Following Make It. MSP. on our social channels, participating in project teams, and investing in the initiative are all ways you can encourage your network to get involved.
