How is MSP Performing at Atrracting and Retaining People?
DID YOU KNOW?
Today, Greater MSP partners operate within a tight labor market. There are currently more jobs available within the region than professionals to fill them.
In recent years, the region has experienced a positive annual net migration. Each year, there are thousands more people moving here than leaving.
The projected increase in our region’s labor gap means the region needs to continue to improve the number of people it attracts and retains within the workforce. Otherwise, a stagnant or decreasing net migration rate will further exacerbate labor market challenges.
The Make It. MSP. initiative acts as a collaborative intervention on multiple fronts. Across the initiative, we believe that inclusively welcoming and connecting people to economic opportunities and community will help them establish the relationships they need in order to come, stay, and thrive.
Given that the GREATER MSP Partnership was established in 2011 as a strategic solution to prioritize regional development—a major shortcoming of Greater MSP—our improved performance demonstrates the region's commitment to maintaining its competitive edge and reinventing itself as an emerging top performer.
